Speciality #1: Leipziger Lerche
The Leipziger Lerche – meaning “Leipzig lark” – is a sweet pastry that looks like a small pie. In its basket of shortcrust pastry with the distinctive crossed pastry strips, it hides a filling of marzipan and jam. It is considered the pride of the local baking trade. This makes the Leipziger Lerche the perfect gift for all participants and speakers with a sweet tooth. And the legend surrounding their invention makes enjoying them even sweeter. The first “Leipzig larks” are said to have originated in the 19th century as an alternative to eating real larks and other songbirds, which was still common at the time. At the Bäckerei Kleinert, the Lerchen are now largely made using regional ingredients. This makes them the perfect Leipzig local speciality that no giveaway bag should be without.
Speciality #2: Bachtaler
Each of the handmade Bachtaler chocolates from Café Kandler consists of a shell of the finest chocolate coating with a ganache and mocca nougat filling. At its core is a coffee bean. The Bachtaler was created in 1999 to mark the Bach memorial year in 2000. Since then, it has become a popular addition to the range of Leipzig specialities. Its special taste and the reference to the music legend Johann Sebastian Bach make the Bachtaler the ideal gift for all classical music fans among the participants and speakers at your conference in Leipzig.
Speciality #3: Leipzig gose
Gose is a top-fermented beer with a distinctive sour taste. This old type of beer is said to have originated in the small town of Goslar in Lower Saxony. Gose was served in Leipzig in the 18th century at the latest. Here it quickly became a local speciality. And after a long and eventful history, it has remained so. Today, various breweries in the city offer their own varieties of gose – first and foremost the Leipzig institution Bayerischer Bahnhof, which also runs an online shop. Visitors can also really relax and enjoy this special beer locally at “Ohne Bedenken”, one of the oldest gose pubs in the city which even has its own brewery. A gose in a distinctive bulbous bottle is a Leipzig speciality that will make a great giveaway for the speakers at your conference in Leipzig.
Speciality #4: Leipzig Allasch
Allasch is a caraway liqueur with 38 % ABV. It is thought to have first arrived in Leipzig in 1830, where it went on to enjoy a similar success to gose. Today it is particularly popular as an accompaniment. Leipzig Allasch is also popular as a chilled digestif. For those who are not afraid of its relatively high alcohol content for a liqueur, a bottle of Echter Leipziger Allasch makes for a delicious giveaway.
Speciality #5: Specialities from the Kern & Stein delicatessen
The conserves and spreads, chutneys, juices and other treats from the Kern & Stein delicatessen are made exclusively from fruit and vegetables from the Leipzig region and central Germany. In this way, the delicatessen combines Leipzig’s entrepreneurial spirit with the highest standards of sustainability and regionalism. With its products, Kern & Stein has become a permanent fixture in the Gohlis district. At the same time, its products – whether individually or combined in a gift box – are quintessential Leipzig specialities. They are the ideal gift idea for all event organisers who want to give their participants or speakers a “real” piece of Leipzig.
