Annual meeting of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials
Honouring dentistry in Leipzig
In June 2024, restorative dentistry and prosthetics were the focus of the first joint annual conference of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro) and the German Society for Restorative Dentistry (DGZ) at the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig. Professor Rainer Haak was elected President of the DGZ in 2021. He is Director of the Department of Cariology, Endodontology and Periodontology at the University of Leipzig Medical Center. The election was a special honour for Haak himself and for dentistry in Leipzig. He was invited to Leipzig this year as conference president, where he was honoured for his special services to restorative dentistry. Among other things, Haak is a champion of dialogue between scientific dental associations. This commitment also led to the first joint annual conference of the two societies.
Leipzig Forum for Innovative Dentistry
Dental congresses made in Leipzig
The Leipzig Forum for Innovative Dentistry invites delegates to the Pentahotel Leipzig for the 21st time on 20 and 21 September 2024. Professional development will be the focus of lectures, seminars, workshops and discussions. The event will bring the latest scientific developments to up to 200 dentists and their teams. Current trends and innovations in dentistry are also on the agenda. What’s more, there will be a focus on the opportunities this opens up for day-to-day practice. The event is organised by OEMUS Media AG. Since 1994, the Leipzig-based company has made a name for itself as one of the leading specialist publishers for dentistry and dental technology in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The publishing house is also one of the largest providers of congresses and seminars in the German-speaking dental industry.
Annual conference of the German Society of Orthodontics
In the footsteps of the oldest university chair of orthodontics
It is also worth taking a look ahead: in September 2025, the 97th annual conference of the German Society of Orthodontics (DGKFO) will be held at the Congress Center Leipzig. Around 2500 people are expected to attend. The conference president is Professor Till Köhne, Head of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Leipzig Medical Center since 2021. He thus represents the oldest university chair of orthodontics in Germany. One focus of his clinical and scientific work is the treatment of children with cleft lips and palates. He is also focussing on the introduction of modern digital solutions in order to provide the best possible treatment for malocclusion. Leipzig offers Köhne ideal conditions for this. His department is one of the contributors to the Competence Centre for Orofacial and Craniofacial Anomalies (KOALA). KOALA is a national leader in the treatment of children with cleft lip and palate, oral deformities and craniofacial deformities. The University of Leipzig Medical Center has all the necessary disciplines for holistic patient care and interdisciplinary consultation hours to provide patients with personalised treatment.
infotage FACHDENTAL Leipzig
Regional trade fair for dentistry and dental technology
Leipzig is also a firm favourite with organisers of regional dental trade fairs. FACHDENTAL has been a guest event at Leipziger Messe since 1993. It is part of a series of dental trade fairs in Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. The trade fair for dentistry and dental technology brings industry players together in Saxony and invites visitors to take part in training, information sessions and networking. Each year the event provides dentists, dental technicians and dental assistants with a comprehensive overview of the market. Having been successfully developed further, the trade fair was held under new branding for the first time in spring 2024: around 2500 visitors attended infotage FACHDENTAL Leipzig. The event is organised by Messe Stuttgart in cooperation with LDF GmbH. Together, they plan to expand the education and training programme at the Leipzig event in the future.
Zahntechnik plus by Leipziger Messe
Young platform for the dental technology industry
When it comes to dentistry, the skilled craft of dental technology is never far away. A new platform for dental technology, policy-makers, the market and tech players was recently developed in Leipzig. Zahntechnik plus took place for the first time in 2022, organised by Leipziger Messe. The event is the brainchild of the Association of German Dental Technician Guilds (VDZI). Zahntechnik plus is a VDZI-certified training event. It is aimed at owners and managers of dental laboratories, dental technicians, dentists, orthodontists, experts and young professionals. In addition to the congress, the latest technologies, products and services are presented at the industry exhibition – a showcase for dental technology made in Germany. The second edition already saw an increase in visitors and exhibitors. In May 2024, 1480 visitors came to the Congress Center Leipzig. The next Zahntechnik plus will take place on 6 and 7 March 2026.
Strong cluster in Leipzig as a business location
Conferences give new impetus
As an area of healthcare and biotechnology, dentistry plays an important role for Leipzig as a business location and in the city’s cluster strategy. And the examples show that industry meetings on all aspects of dental health are a regular feature of the Leipzig congress calendar. They benefit from the close ties to the University of Leipzig’s Faculty of Medicine, the largest medical training centre in Saxony, as well as to research facilities, clinics and companies in the healthcare sector. At the same time, they bring the expertise available in Leipzig as a centre of medicine to the fore, and create a space for exchange and further training, which provides valuable impulses for the entire field. Leipzig as a conference destination offers the best conditions for this. For organisers in healthcare and biotechnology, this can only mean one thing: it’s time to head to Leipzig!
