Welcome to Leipzig: UEFA EURO 2024 host city
Teamwork for a football festival and beyond
Leipzig was a UEFA EURO 2024™ host city. This means that Leipzig was one of ten German cities to host the tournament in June and July. Alongside the matches in the stadium, Leipzig went all out to create a vibrant celebration of football in the city centre. The fan zone on Augustusplatz alone attracted more than 300,000 visitors from all over Europe. And they all got a taste of Leipzig’s hospitality and outward-looking attitude. They discovered a city with an impressive past, an exciting cultural scene and a present that the locals just love. These and other reasons are what make Leipzig a popular conference destination. Both UEFA EURO 2024™and Leipzig’s busy conference calendar show that this is a city that values teamwork.
A strong network for your conference in Leipzig
An efficient and experienced team
We are better together – this is the philosophy behind the congress initiative “Feel the spirit … do-it-at-leipzig.de”, a network of around 50 partners. It includes conference venues and hotels as well as service agencies, PCOs, mobility partners and more. As an organiser, you will benefit from this network’s many years of collaboration and experience. You will receive helpful suggestions and tailor-made support for the planning and implementation of your conference. The Leipzig Convention Bureau is your first port of call. Personal contact partners provide you with a wide range of services. And the congress initiative partners are then just a phone call or click away.Joining forces as ambassadors for Leipzig
Stand at IMEX 2024
Do you already know some of Leipzig’s conference venues? Or perhaps you have heard a lot about Leipzig? This is precisely what the congress initiative wants. And it’s why the partners like to join forces to present themselves as ambassadors for Leipzig. The best example of this? IMEX in Frankfurt.
The joint trade fair stand in May 2024 was organised by the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL), Zoo Leipzig, Porsche Leipzig, the Leipzig Marriott Hotel, The Westin Leipzig and the Leipzig Convention Team. They welcomed countless trade visitors beneath the bright Leipzig lettering. In addition to pre-arranged appointments, the stand attracted plenty of spontaneous visitors. The secret star of the Leipzig team was mascot TAMMI. As the perfect embodiment of Leipzig’s charm, a lot of people wanted a photo of the fluffy lion with his friendly smile. The positive result was a high level of interest in the conference destination and concrete enquiries about dates and venues for events. Just one example: one trade visitor from Argentina’s incentive sector was so impressed that we organised a stay in Leipzig for him on the spot. After IMEX, he travelled straight to Saxony and visited Porsche Leipzig, among other venues
100,000 trees for the ‘forest championship’
Promoting ecological sustainability
In Leipzig, this special interplay works – and sustainability is no exception. UEFA EURO 2024™ was the inspiration for the latest project: the ‘forest championship’. This major tree-planting campaign was initiated by Zoo Leipzig, the German Football Association (DFB), the company EURO 2024 GmbH and the German Ministry of the Interior. Their aim: to plant 2024 trees for each of the 51 European Championship matches in Germany. And everyone involved is convinced: “With 100,000 trees, we will be forest champions”. Partners from the congress initiative are actively supporting Zoo Leipzig on the ground – by donating trees, of course! Leipzig reached its own target with a planting campaign in March: for each of the four European Championship matches to be played here, 2024 trees were planted, for a total of 8096.Sustainable collaboration
Leipzig’s ideas for the future
The ‘forest championship’ is a good fit for Leipzig. The focus is on sustainability as an issue for the future. This common goal benefits from the special sense of togetherness in Leipzig. Sustainable mobility is part of everyday life and is discussed at conferences. Zoo Leipzig was awarded the 2023 German Sustainability Award. Several of Leipzig’s hotels are Certified Green Hotels. The trade fair company Leipziger Messe is certified according to Green Globe standards. And these are just a few of many examples. With this wealth of ideas, Leipzig offers plenty of inspiration for sustainability in practice.Strong team for medical congresses
